Our Story

When you meet me, I often refer to myself as "just" a bookkeeper. Let me clarify: I use this term not to diminish my role, but to express my pride in being a bookkeeper and a woman-owned business owner. I know how challenging it can be to juggle multiple responsibilities, and I'm here to support you authentically.

NLC Bookkeeping began in 2019, driven by a passion for addressing neglected and messy bookkeeping.

Fueled by a desire to help female entrepreneurs grow their businesses while balancing the demands of both business ownership and personal lives, we set out to make a difference. We revolutionized bookkeeping for women-owned companies, empowering them to reclaim their time and energy. By partnering with us, they can focus on accelerating growth and achieving a fulfilling work-life balance, allowing their businesses to thrive.

At NLC Bookkeeping, we believe in professionalism, integrity, support, and authenticity. What sets us apart is our motto: "From Chaos to Clarity: Bookkeeping Made Easy!"

Our journey has had its challenges, especially in breaking into the market as a Black woman-owned financial service business. Yet, we face each challenge with resilience and determination, leading to growth and greater awareness.

The true success of our brand shines through in the stories of empowered female entrepreneurs, one person at a time, as they create a meaningful impact.

Our vision for the future is clear: by embracing the power of bookkeeping, we will cultivate a vibrant community of women entrepreneurs dedicated to open conversations about money. Together, we will break the silence surrounding women and money, empowering one another to thrive and achieve financial independence.

My journey to owning a financial services business is an inspiring one. I was born and raised in one of New York City's public housing developments, in the heart of Spanish Harlem. Initially, I attended Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn, NY, where I pursued Early Childhood Education to become a preschool teacher. My commute involved taking two trains and two buses from Spanish Harlem to Manhattan Beach.

After working as a nanny and preschool teacher around New York, I took a bold step and moved to Pennsylvania. There, I continued my teaching career, when I faced the challenges of the global economic downturn that affected many workers. I experienced a turning point: I recognized the importance of taking control of my financial future and opened my first Roth IRA, since the early childhood education field offered no benefits at the time.

Coming from a background and community with limited financial resources and financial literacy, I seized the opportunity to delve deeply into retirement accounts and the stock market, discovering a newfound passion for money management. I returned to school to pursue a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a focus on Accounting. I fell in love with the material and the empowerment it brought me.

Some of my most cherished moments are the conversations I had about money with my grandfather, who had been an investor for years. His encouragement inspired me to learn about financial management, rather than rely solely on others. Reflecting on my upbringing in public housing, I vividly recall the women returning home from work, looking defeated, and my grandmother, who raised seven children in public housing on her husbands warehouse wages. This fueled my determination to take charge of my finances.

Today, I dedicate myself to supporting female business owners in reclaiming their time and energy to grow their businesses through offering exceptional bookkeeping services. In my home office, I find joy in managing clients' financial records (I thrive on transactional work) while savoring my favorite organic coffee blend, Light & Sweet, from my home coffee bar—I unapologetically embrace my passion for coffee.
